2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games
3,000 athletes from 110 nations competed at the largest international sporting and humanitarian event of the year!
ESPN’s global coverage of the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria began with a live three-hour special capturing the inspiration, pageantry, performances and special guests of the World Winter Games Opening Ceremony. It marked the first-ever live coverage of the World Winter Games. From March 19-24, a nightly program – Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 – showcased stories, competition, and interviews from Austria.
Four athletes from Special Olympics Florida represented the United States, as part of Special Olympics USA at these Games: Michelle Canazaro, Kerri Leonardo, and Fernando Nunez in Alpine skiing, and Allan Lohr in figure skating.
While the Games took place March 14-25, the work we do — to serve all of our 38,000 athletes in Florida and achieve our goal of a more inclusive community — continues every day of the year. Find your local program, become a volunteer, become an athlete or Unified Partner, or get involved with one of our fundraising events today!
