The Flame of Hope is a powerful symbol. For Special Olympics, the iconic flame delivers inspiration, as well as a message of awareness for social change, as it’s carried by athletes and members of the law enforcement community across the globe.
The message behind the Flame of Hope is mirrored in Special Olympics’ annual Torch Icon campaign supported by Publix Super Markets and Proctor & Gamble. Each January, Special Olympics Florida celebrates the power of the Flame of Hope by selling Torch Icons at Publix Super Markets across Florida (the campaign is repeated in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee). Starting January 2 through 22nd, when Publix shoppers make a $1, $3, $5 or $10 donation, they’ll receive a Torch Icon that includes $12.50 in coupons for their favorite P&G products.
In Florida, the community support and funds garnered by the Torch Icon sales make a tremendous difference in the lives of more than 24,000 athletes throughout the state. This year, not only will the Torch Icons feature the faces of local athletes, but they will also tell each athlete’s personal story at www.SavingsPG.com.
Athletes like Megan, who lost 75 pounds through exercise and healthy eating, and Lonnie, who inspired friends and teammates with his bravery when he had to relearn many of his favorite sports after losing his vision.
