It might not be covered in ice, but the Polar Plunge at Sea World’s Aquatica is definitely Central Florida’s coolest event. Polar Plunge is an event where anyone can fundraise for Special Olympics Florida and earn the privilege of plunging into the chilled down wave pool at Aquatica (as well as some other pretty cool incentives).
Just like Special Olympics Florida athlete Jacob Mullen, whose love for Special Olympics and the water inspired him to take the plunge this year, more than 1,100 people will take the plunge. Jacob and his family started fundraising so that he could achieve one of his life’s dreams – swimming with the dolphins. He describes his dream on his personal Polar Plunge fundraising page.
“Other than technology and bowling, one of Jacob’s favorite things is the water. So when we saw Special Olympics Florida’s Polar Plunge opportunity, we thought it would be a great way to combine Jacob’s love of water with a chance for us to contribute to Special Olympics Florida through fund raising. Jacob has talked of wanting to “swim with the dolphins” but it isn’t something we’ve been able to do yet. He’s been to almost every other theme park and water park in Florida, but not Discovery Cove or Aquatica. After seeing that Jacob could win a chance to visit Discovery Cove and swim with the dolphins, we decided to make our fundraising goal a big one – the top level of $3,000.”
It’s time to get inspired! Visit our Polar Plunge site and take a minute to learn more about Jacob and some of the other Plungers, as well as the incentives you can earn for fundraising. Then, register to join us for the Polar Plunge at Sea World’s Aquatica on February 1.
