Special Olympics Florida

Laura “Girl Power” Hernandez

Hernandez on Finish line promotional material

This year, the Finish Line Youth Foundation announced that one of its 2018 Holiday Campaign Spokesperson would be Special Olympics Florida’s very own Laura Hernandez. Along with three other Special Olympics athletes who will represent different regions of the United States, Hernandez will be featured during the holiday campaign running now until December 30.

Hernandez will appear on promotional materials in more than 200 Finish Line stores throughout the Southeast United States. Customers will be invited to make donations to benefit Special Olympics during the campaign. This will be the seventh year in a row that Finish Line and Special Olympics will be partnering for this annual holiday campaign.

The retailer, which specializes in footwear and athletic apparel, also has 91 stores right here in Florida. Online purchases during the campaign can also support Special Olympics.

Hernandez, who has participated in Special Olympics for 15 years, has represented Team Florida in soccer numerous times including the Special Olympics USA Games in 2010 and 2018. She also participates in basketball, bowling and softball. She originally joined Special Olympics to stay active and fit, and because she loves to play soccer. Her teammates refer to Hernandez as “Girl Power” because she is usually the only girl on all male teams.

When asked what it means to be a part of the Finish Line Holiday Campaign, Hernandez replied, “It makes me feel happy to have my picture on the store because it looks great and wonderful.”

Please join us in congratulating Hernandez on this amazing honor! And don’t forget to head to your nearest Finish Line retailer or their website this holiday season to support Special Olympics when you make your holiday purchases!
