Special Olympics Florida

Daniel Mueller

Soccer Coach, Palm Beach County

This is my second year volunteering as a unified soccer team coach for Special Olympics Florida – Palm Beach County.  I have been coaching for about 10 years off and on with high school and travel clubs.  What really inspired me, was one day when I was getting done with training, I saw a friend of mine who played soccer.  He was on the field kicking the ball with his autistic son.  Seeing the smile on his face and the pure joy with no worries in sight, is what gave me inspiration to volunteer and help.

Every time they step on the field you can see the excitement in their eyes and the willingness to learn the fundamentals of the sport and have fun doing it. From the first practice to the present, each individual athlete has improved tremendously.

It is so rewarding watching all the athletes compete, not worrying about the out come, but enjoying the positivities from each player and volunteers.   I always said soccer is a world sport that is played not by one individual, but as a team. I’m so blessed to be a part of their lives as a coach and as a friend.
