Larry Timmer Heart Award
Larry began volunteering with Special Olympics through the Law Enforcement Torch Run in 1998. He represented the Tampa Police Department and Special Olympics Florida in the World Games in China, worked with the Hillsborough County staff, volunteers, and athletes through the Publix Torch campaign, mentored a Global Messenger and helped spearhead many fundraisers. His selfless contributions to the community through a variety of charities earned him the respect of the citizens of Tampa as he was awarded the “Community Hero” by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Larry showed his true heart by donating his financial award to Special Olympics Florida and sponsored our athletes who competed in USA Games in New Jersey. We honor Larry by recognizing an individual who follows the example of his true heart!
Dan Black Award
Dan Black was an amazing coach who gave his all to athletes, always went above and beyond what was asked of him and would go anywhere and do anything to help other coaches and their athletes. This award goes to the Special Olympics Florida - Hillsborough County coach who best demonstrates exceptional dedication to his or her athletes through leadership and selflessness, consistently goes the extra mile to support the sport(s) he or she coaches, embodies positive sportsmanship and is a team player.
Zenay Morales Courage Award
Zenay was a very talented and active athlete who competed in bowling, soccer, and swimming. Although she passed away in 2001, Zenay remains a source of inspiration for our athletes. Zenay was the epitome of sportsmanship, perseverance and courage, which are the criteria of this award!
