A full-circle experience
Tom Langer’s experience with Special Olympics Florida has come full circle.
Langer came to Special Olympics Florida in 2007, volunteering as a screener with our FUNfitness health initiative. At the time, he was a physical therapy student at the University of Central Florida.
He loved the work and, after he got his license, he served as the FUNfitness Clinical Director, and, later as the FUNfitness State Director. During his tenure, both screenings and number of volunteers grew significantly.
He took a break in 2015, but, today, Langer is back. Now the Regional Director for the Orlando Outpatient Division of Brooks Rehabilitation, Langer is again helping Special Olympics Florida – this time through community outreach and sponsorship support. Brooks Rehabilitation provided financial support to the 2022 Polar Plunge in Orlando and plans other sponsorships in the future.
Langer says he wants to create a “wonderful relationship between Brooks Rehabilitation and Special Olympics Florida.”
Langer says he was “hooked” on volunteering from his very first assignment. He’s inspired by the courage of our athletes and the opportunity to see them thrive. Special Olympics Florida, he says, holds “a very sacred place” in his heart.
