Celebrating Black History Month: Andre Dawson

As we recognize and celebrate Black History Month, some of our athletes are thrilled to share the trailblazers who inspire them. Broward County Athlete Leader Layla Crehan is inspired by Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and eight-time All-Star Andre Dawson.

"Andre is in the Baseball Hall of Fame and was an amazing athlete and had a long career. But after he retired, he learned to swim at the age of 50," Layla says. "And not only has he gone on to support Special Olympics, but he is also helping me make Florida a zero drowning state! Andre and I are both National Ambassadors for the Baby Otter Swim School. Andre is also my very good friend!"
