DentaQuest Brightens Smiles at State Summer Games
As part of our Healthy Athletes initiative, 630 athletes received dental screenings, 547 received fluoride treatments, and 197 were referred for follow-up care during their visit to Special Smiles at our State Summer Games.
Special Smiles provides oral health care information, non-invasive dental screenings, and guidance on correct brushing and flossing. Athletes receive toothpaste, toothbrushes, and fluoride varnish. Many Special Olympics athletes know little about oral healthcare, but thanks to our dental partners and volunteers, we can offer them the care they deserve.
Beryl Sue Kassoff-Correia, Clinical Director and Screener for Special Smiles, is one of those amazing volunteers. She has been caring for our athletes for more than a decade.
DentaQuest, a Supporting Sponsor for Special Smiles statewide, provided hygienists and dentists – including Dr. Doug Manning – at the recent Special Smiles screening. We are incredibly grateful to DentaQuest, Ms. Kassoff-Correia, Dr. Manning, and the dozens of dental volunteers who take such great care of our athletes.
