Ways to Give
Not everyone is interested or available to coach or volunteer with Special Olympics Florida. That’s OK! You can still make a difference in the life of an athlete and the Special Olympics movement by providing your support through individual or corporate financial support or in-kind donations.
Your generosity enables people with intellectual disabilities to experience the power of sports every day. In doing so, you are helping change society’s perceptions and treatment of people with intellectual disabilities — and creating a better world for us all. But for every Special Olympics athlete, there are many more that we haven’t reached yet.
Special Olympics Florida does not charge its athletes nor their families a fee for participation. We are funded through individuals, businesses and civic groups throughout Florida. With your help, we can pursue our mission of making the joys and benefits of Special Olympics a reality to more athletes each year.
Donate and help us give the power of sport to one more person. There are a number of ways that you can help make this happen – just find the one that’s right for you!

Making charitable contributions is an art – a creative process that adapts to the changing needs and wishes of the donor. Planned giving enables a donor to arrange charitable contributions in ways that maximize his or her personal objectives while minimizing after-tax cost. What are planned gifts? Planned gifts include gifts through your will, charitable gift annuities, gifts of life insurance, pooled income funds, and charitable trusts.
A planned gift to Special Olympics Florida helps to ensure the future of the services and programs we provide in your community and may further your financial goals. Depending on the assets and the gift arrangement selected, a donor can expect to obtain some or all of the following benefits:
- Fulfill philanthropic goals
- Reduce income tax through a deduction for the gift
- Avoid capital gain tax on gifts of long-term appreciated property
- Retain a stream of payments for life for the donor and other beneficiaries
- Increase disposable income
- Eliminate federal estate tax on property passing to charity upon donor’s death
- Reduce cost and time in estate settlement

Many of our supporters make charitable gifts by naming Special Olympics Florida as a beneficiary in their wills.
Life Income Gift
You irrevocably transfer some assets to the Special Olympics Florida now, and in return, you (and a survivor, if you wish) receive income for life.
Gift of Life Insurance
Some of our supporters no longer need their life insurance that was purchased years ago to provide for children or other family members, and donate the policy to the Special Olympics Florida.
Pooled Income Fund
Your gift of money, marketable securities, or both is invested together with similar gifts from other supporters.
Charitable Lead Trust
Individuals with very large estates can use a charitable lead trust to benefit Special Olympics Florida and pass principal to family members with little or no tax penalty.
Gifts of Retirement Plans
Your IRA assets will be transferred to a charitable remainder trust, the trust will provide life income to the beneficiary, and then an eventual gift to Special Olympics Florida.
