Special Olympics Florida Athletes Headed to the World Games
The Special Olympics World Games are coming, and Special Olympics Florida athletes will be there!
About 20 of our athletes and Unified partners will be part of the Special Olympics USA team, as they take on the world’s best this summer. They include: cyclists Maxwell Verduin (Orange County) and Mollie O’Connell (Sarasota County); tennis players Brandon Mailly and Gerard Mailly (Osceola County); open water swimmer Gina Grant (Broward County); and the Alachua All Stars, a Unified basketball team. Two Florida coaches, gymnastics coach Lauren Petrick (Miami-Dade), and swim coach Phyllis Crain (Hillsborough County), will also attend.
The World Games will be held from June 17 to June 25 and will feature some 7,000 athletes and Unified partners from approximately 170 countries. Read more about the athletes and the World Games here.
