Torch Icon Campaign

An enormous thank you to Publix Super Markets, and Procter & Gamble for their tremendous support of our annual Torch Icon Campaign (January 7-18, 2021).  The energy was at an all-time high!

Once again, Publix associates were an indispensable part of the effort, decking out their stores across the state in Special Olympics balloons and generating enthusiasm among customers. P&G provided $10 in coupons to shoppers who bought a torch and made a donation.

Thanks also to our athletes, families, volunteers, sponsors, and fans who helped promote the campaign.  We are grateful for the light you shine on our mission!

Publix has been a Special Olympics supporter for more than 40 years, and, since 1993, the Torch Icon Campaign has been helping people with intellectual disabilities achieve their dreams.

Here are a few responses when we asked our champions, "Why do you Light the Torch?"

Toni Marie, Marion County athlete: “I Light the Torch because I am proud to be an athlete in the Special Olympics. I am 59-years-old and still competing thanks to your donations.”

Jeannette, Osceola County coach: “I Light the Torch because I love coaching the athletes to reach their fullest potential and discover their untapped potential. We become such an amazing family and watch each other grow in so many ways.”

Scott, Sumter County athlete: “Special Olympics is such an important part of my life. It opened up a whole new world for me seven years ago. I now have friends and a feeling of belonging that I never had before. That's why I always Light the Torch!”

Ron, Charlotte County Unified partner: “My involvement in Special Olympics has been the most rewarding time of my life. Meeting the athletes and competing side by side is amazing.”
