Triathletes Compete on the World Stage
Let’s hear it for the incredible Special Olympics Florida athletes who competed recently at an international triathlon in Slovakia!
This year, three athletes – and their coaches – joined thousands of triathletes from around the globe for this world-class event in Šamorín, Slovakia. The Special Olympics Florida athletes were Maya Fletcher from Palm Beach County, Zachary Deonath from Marion County, and Frank Russell from Escambia County.
Our inspiring athletes braved chilly, 55-degree water for the swim leg of the event and proved, once again, that people with intellectual disabilities will achieve remarkable things – if they are just given the chance. This is the second year in a row that Special Olympics Florida athletes have participated in the Special Olympics European Triathlon Open Competition, part of the Challenge Family Triathlon Series.
