Believe in yourself
It’s been almost two weeks since Super Bowl LIX, but Special Olympics Florida Athlete Leader Malcom Harris-Gowdie is still buzzing about covering the game as a credentialed reporter.
This was Malcom’s third time at the game with FanSided media, but it was the first year he worked inside the stadium on game day. During his time in New Orleans, he interviewed some of the NFL’s biggest stars, including Super Bowl MVP and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith.
Malcom, a St. Lucie County athlete, said being part of Special Olympics Florida readied him for this experience. “It's prepared me tremendously,” he said. “It’s helped me with my confidence.”
Malcom said he was honored to represent Special Olympics Florida and hopes his work inspires other athletes to “follow their dreams.”
“I want to show Special Olympics athletes that you can do this too,” he said. “Believe in yourself, believe in your abilities, and have the confidence to do it.”
Malcom credits Special Olympics Florida with helping him build a network of supporters who’ve guided him along the way.
“Have people who help you and cheer you on for whatever it is you want to pursue in life,” he said. “Whether it's being a reporter, an athlete, a coach, or a volunteer. Don't let anything or anyone stand in your way.”
