South Florida Athlete Receives Don Taft Award
Special Olympics Florida is thrilled to announce that Shania Williams has been named the Don Taft Athlete of the Year.
Shania is a 28-year-old multi-sport athlete who’s competed in Special Olympics since middle school. She is an enthusiastic Athlete Leader who inspires her fellow athletes and builds connections among her peers, coaches, and Unified partners.
Outside Special Olympics Florida, Shania works at Hard Rock Stadium as part of the concessions staff. She’s an avid writer of fantasy stories and enjoys volunteering at local events like the Miami-Dade Book Fair. She loves arts and crafts, regularly working on projects during her downtime. One day, she’d like to become an assistant coach, so she can help other athletes discover their true potential.
The Don Taft Athlete of the Year Award honors exceptional athletes who embody the spirit of Special Olympics Florida. The Taft Foundation is a dedicated friend of Special Olympics Florida and its athletes. Established by Broward County businessman and philanthropist Don Taft, the Foundation supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and works to enhance the well-being of children facing serious illnesses.
